FRENCH FRIDAY!!!!

You should do a story on that really awesome U8 (No V8!) Bagheera:

Kinja'd!!!

A Bagheera could be my next project after the 2002 btw.

Oh, man. I'll be pretty damn jealous. I see one at a French car show here once a year and it always makes me giddy for some reason. It would be a fascinating car to research.

A neighbor of mine bought one new back then (and before I was his neighbor obviously ;-). Was one of the worst cars ever: the chassis started to corrode within a year! That's probably why you find them for cheap, mainly in France. A Murena is much better when it comes to durability, that's why they're still twice as expensive! Some Belgian bloke still makes that chassis though.

That U8-engine was actually two Simca 1000 Rally2 engines combined (two crankshafts!) with some chains. You can start your research over here !

That's hilarious. The story and that engine. It's too bad they were essentially crap because the general idea is a great one. And it looks terrific. It could have been France's Miata, maybe.

Especially the 1st generation looks awesome (with the small rear-lights).

That U8-idea was a problem to begin with. Why not 'just' use the two cylinder-banks and create a V8? This way was a proven failure already in the 70s. But the general idea is good indeed: It would fit my requirements perfectly with that 3-seats and that mid-engine. If they'd just done any protection at all to that chassis... They learned from it though: the Murena had a galvanized chassis. And much more survivors...
